FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A REGISTERED DIETITIAN AND A NUTRITIONIST?

Registered dietitians (RDs) have undergone a three step credentialing process: at least a four year degree from specifically accredited colleges or universities, a minimum of 1200-hours in a dietetic internship, and a national examination. In many states, including Georgia, RDs also must be licensed to practice. RDs have knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical conditions which uniquely qualify them to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy to help treat diseases or their symptoms.

Nutritionists, on the other hand, may or may not have this extensive education or knowledge base. Nutritionists are not legally allowed to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy.

WHAT WILL WE DO IN NUTRITION COACHING SESSIONS?

First session

45-60 minutes

During this session we will get to know each other. We will discuss your goals, your current nutrition habits, and what we can accomplish together. We will set realistic goals and benchmarks to mark our progress.

Follow up sessions

30-45 minutes

Follow up sessions typically take place every week or every other week. These regular meetings allow us to continually adapt and individualize your plan. The further we go, the less frequent follow ups tend to be.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DOES ASCEND NUTRITION TAKE?

Ascend Nutrition accepts payment via credit card, Chase QuickPay, and Apple Pay.

WILL MY HEALTH INSURANCE COVER REGISTERED DIETITIAN SERVICES?

Maybe. I do not accept insurance, but you are able to submit a form to your insurance company to get reimbursed. Insurance plans vary, and some may cover visits with a Registered Dietitian, and others may not.
